Myddfai Herbs

A Welsh Herbal contains photos and woodcuts of  the 40 herbs featured on the CD-Rom. This mini gallery features just 12 of these herbal images. Again on the CD-Rom these images are interactively linked to other parts of the herbal.

The woodcuts provide a fascinating insight into the skill of the woodcarvers who made them. Not only are the botanical details very accurate, but carving them into wood must have been far more difficult than drawing them on paper. These images from over 400 years ago, give a wonderful historical perspective of the use herbs.

The slide sequence starts with the woodcuts; Agrimony, Bogbean, Clivers, Dandelion, Plantain, Sea Holly,then shows the photos; Sea Holly, Dandelion, Water Mint, Wormwood, Yarrow, Red Clover.
